The Gumpara Vineyard situated in the Light Pass district of the Barossa Valley has been cared for by the Mader family for 7 generations. Sourced from a special selected low yielding single vineyard, these own rooted Shiriaz vines are grown in rich red clay; pink marble and ironstone on limestone base. Pruning techniques and trellis systems have been modified to spread the fruit zone evenly, providing greater balance to each vine.

From a special selected low yielding single vineyard, these own rooted Shiraz vines are grown in rich red clay, pink marble and ironstone on limestone base. Pruning techniques and trellis systems have been modified to spread the fruit zone evenly, providing greater balance to each vine.
VINIFICATION
Crushed and de-stemmed into open fermenters, with fermentation controlled at 25°C. This developing wine is pumped over twice each day. Free run is removed from the skins and the must is gently pressed via basket press. Fermentation was completed in new French oak barrels prior to malolactic conversion and ageing (pressings only).
MATURATION
18 months in new French oak hogsheads, then transferred to two year old French oak for 6 months.
VINTAGE REPORT
Overall, wines from the 2022 Barossa Valley harvest are solid. Rainfall during the growing season was below average followed by significant rainfall event near the end of February that assisted to freshen the vine canopy before harvest. A relatively cool summer resulted in crops with delicious flavours and delightful natural acidity.
COMMENTS
Colour – Deep purple verging on black with cherry red hues
Bouquet – An intense fresh medley of mulberry, blackberry and black currant fruits, cradled with spices and subtle French oak.
Palate – The palate displays fresh Shiraz intensity, white pepper and supported with balanced oak and silky tannins.
CELLARING
Drink now, or benefit by careful cellaring well into next decade and beyond.
