2023 The Bakehouse

This wine has been tailor made to commemorate the 2020 restoration of the original Bakehouse which was built by the first settlers of Light Pass in 1845.
Predominately made from Shiraz grapes it represents a lighter than usual style of wine made under the Gumpara label. Cherry fruits in combination of a fine tannin structure, with 12 month oak influence in seasoned barrels are the building blocks for this creation.

VITICULTURE
Traditional hand pruning methods are applied, the fruit is harvested at what is considered to be optimal ripeness and flavour in accordance to terrior, soil type and micro climate.

VINIFICATION
Crushed and de-stemmed into open fermenters, with fermentation controlled at 25°C. Must is pumped over twice each day. Free run is removed from the skins and the pressings are gently pressed via basket press, with free run and pressings reblended prior to malolactic fermentation.

MATURATION
Aged in seasoned French and American oak hogsheads.

VINTAGE REPORT
Almost record spring rainfall in the Barossa resulted in strong, uniform budburst and large canopies. Summer rainfall was significantly below average with no major heatwaves, leading to a delayed harvest providing time for flavour development. The 2023 Gumpara reds display rich aromas that are intense with balanced flavours and excellent colour.

COMMENTS
Colour – Deep regal red hues. Verging on black.
Bouquet – Freshly cracked black pepper. Supported with seasoned French and American oak hogsheads, amongst a harmonious mix of fresh kitchen spices.
Palate – The palate explodes with abundant fruit and spices, cloves and allspice all cradled amongst silky fine tannins.

CELLARING
Made to drink as a young wine and will age to 10 years if cellared correctly.
